One of the first improvements of the year was the overhaul and refurbishing of the Tiger mower system. The bellymounted framework was removed and cut apart, damaged sections were replaced with new steel, mounting holes drilled and welded back together. The mount was then repainted and installed. All cylinders were checked for leaks, as well as all valves and hoses. The oil storage tank was inspected, cleaned and repainted. The drive pump and hydraulic hoses were all replaced with new. The entire mowing deck was removed and stored, and a complete new deck with new drive motor was purchased and installed. All hinge pins, cable and sheaves were replaced with new. The completed project yielded a like new Tiger mowing system at less than half the total cost of a complete new unit. |

1973 Ford F350 Refurbish/Upgrade
After completion of the mower, we began restoration of our present spray truck unit. This involved complete sand down to bare metal, replacement parts as needed, prime and repainting. Doors were gutted and kitted. All rubber seals and weatherstrips were replaced. The former deck was removed and an all steel deck was designed and constructed from stock steel, and painted. The completed project reused the water tank from the former setup, and a new Raven 440 single chemical injection system was purchased and installed. The completed project yielded a like new condition truck with state of the art capabilities for a total cost of less than 9,000. Half of the cost of the new injection unit and controls was paid through a matching grant secured by the Commissioner's from the State Weed Board. This also offset some of the construction costs and our seasonal chemicals purchased. |
The Office Overhaul
Our office space in the County shed was in desperate need of a complete facelift. All furnishings were removed and the entire surfaces were repainted white from the baseboards up. Used furnishings were procured from Federal Surplus including one desk, two filing cabinets. A timeclock was installed, as well as a new answer machine and a caller ID box. Soon after a computer donated by Brule County and setup by Mike Sebastian was set up in the office. Map boards were repaired and reinstalled on the walls. A dry erase board was also put up to track cyclical blading schedules day to day. The finished office was a much improved space, and more functional as well. |
