Review of projects, improvements, and installations performed by BCHD in 2002 Page Last Updated 2-11-03
While the primary function of the BCHD is to regularly maintain the driveability of our road system, there are always situations requiring attention to address issues of safety or accessability to the system. Listed below are the out of ordinary projects BCHD completed during the 2002 season. All projects are done within our policy of maintaining roads including driveways up to a residence, within our finite and established road system. At the discretion of the entire Board of Commissioners, roads are added or omitted from the system as a whole. These projects are undertaken to improve function, safety and overall driveability of our road system. Our roads are some of the finest gravel roads anywhere, and they are kept in top condition greater than 99.7% of the time annually, which means with the exception of about two to three hours in a year, you can safely expect to be able to travel any Buffalo County road with conditions that are good to very good driving condition (SDDOT STANDARD GRAVEL ROAD GRADATION)or you can expect any road to be in poor driving condition only two to three hours annually if you look at it that way. This figure is based on the performance of all roads over the last four years on average and road condition inspection data on file in our office. This is due to well-planned management and dedicated individuals who deliver the highest quality results possible in every aspect of this operation.
