ON DECEMBER 30 2003 the Board moved to accept the lowest qualified bid on door replacement to American Global Door Company of Mirchell SD
The successful bid was from American Global Company of Mitchell SD with a complete and qualified bid of including tax and installation for Thermaseal TS175 steel clad insulated R16.4 overhead doors in the main shop and fire hall bays. New Raynor PowerHoist operators with 3 button wall control and two channel remote openers. New angle mount tracks, header and blade seals. Pneumatic safety stops on each door. They have doors on order, and should be able to install them in one day. With the increased energy savings we could save in heating four seasons at least the cost plus extending structural integrity.

Our Shop Building
The door on the right of the photo is the smaller fire hall door scheduled to be replaced soon.

Large Bay Doors
The two 16'2" X 16' doors in the center of the picture are scheduled to soon be replaced with lighter and more efficient overhead doors.

Showing signs of stress
Pictured is one of the large overhead doors upper structure. The large springs assist the raising of this 1800 Lb mammoth several times daily since it was installed in 1977. It has opened and closed conservatively 60,000 times and the stress is starting to take its toll on the pivot points as well as the inner door frame. An attempt some years ago to brace and strengthen the upper frame with angle iron actually compromised the doors design by pulling on the inner row of door braces and not the outer braces, causing some panel distortion and heavy wear on the hinges and rollers. The door has fallen one time from 3/4 open, which also weakened the door from the shock of impact absorbed by the frame.

Leaks, creaks, and bypassed safety switches
We recently replaced the original vinyl outer door stripping which had turned to dust. The door to floor gasket was not much better, but was an obsolete style so replacement was not possible, short of replacing the track as well. The safety operators apparently either failed or were damaged and were bypassed to get the doors to work again.
